Classic Car Body Work 101
Repairing the body of a classic car requires experience, in-depth knowledge, and a diverse skill set. No two classic cars are alike, which is why our team at Precision Restorations approaches each project on its own terms. Auto Body Restoration
We work closely with our clients to ensure our process matches your vision. Body work in particular is crucial to the quality of a classic car restoration. Not only does it have a big impact on vehicle appearance, but timely body repairs may also preserve the functionality of a classic car. (You certainly don’t want to ignore signs of rust on steel body panels!)
In addition, body work and body repairs are important prerequisites for a custom paint job. That’s why we take extra care to remove a vehicle’s old paint during our body-repair process and to etch prime bare steel on the body to protect the vehicle. We understand how important effective body work is to carrying out a paint job, which is why our team focuses on getting the details right every time we conduct body repairs.
When you partner with us, we’ll make it a point to communicate with you throughout the process. We’ll always be upfront and transparent, and we’ll provide you with updates on a regular basis. And of course, we only use the highest quality tools and most effective methods to get the job done. Our unique quality-assurance approach enables us to meet your expectations in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Don’t just take our word for it, though. Have a detailed look at our body restoration process here:
- We disassemble the vehicle, inspect the parts, and store them safely.
- We inspect the vehicle frame to determine the extent of repair required for proper body panel fit.
- We carefully remove the vehicle’s paint and old body work manually or with our in-house media blaster to avoid causing any damage during this process.
- We etch prime the vehicle to protect the bare steel.
- We repair any rust found and dents are removed from the body.
- We repair and/or replace floors as needed.
- We prime and finish the entire body.
- We test fit and adjust all panels.
- Our team inspects the vehicle carefully before sending it to our custom paint experts.
